Mark Riedl

Dr. Mark Riedl is the Gitesh Ramamurthy Endowed Professor of AI at the Georgia Institute of Technology, faculty in the School of Interactive Computing and Director of the Georgia Tech Machine Learning Center. Dr. Riedl’s research focuses on human-centered artificial intelligence—the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies that understand and interact with human users in more natural ways. Dr. Riedl’s recent work has focused on story understanding and generation, computational creativity, explainable AI, mechanistic interpretability, and teaching virtual agents to behave safely.

Note to prospective advisees: I am always seeking creative and passionate students at all levels who want to do high-risk, high-reward research in areas that are not necessarily mainstream. You can see recent papers to get a sense for the directions my lab is going. I am inundated by emails requesting to join my lab and I may not be able to respond. If your email does not stand out and explain why you are a great fit for my group you are unlikely to get a response. If your email appears to be AI-generated, you will not get a response. The best way to join my group is to allow me to get to know you through a course I am teaching. I am unable to support a Ph.D. or M.S. graduate research assistantship at this time. I do not have the bandwidth to mentor high-school students.
